After testing and using a number of uninstallers over the years, the only one that has remained on my desktop since I discovered it is IObit Uninstaller. The new version of this free tool, specially designed for Windows 10 and 64-bit architectures, increases my admiration for it. Its improved Force Uninstall to remove stubborn programs or to detect malicious add-ins and toolbars just add to my fascination.
All programs, toolbars, plug-ins, Windows updates, and Windows apps are neatly displayed and organized in the program’s attractive dark-colored interface. Recently installed, infrequently used, or large programs are some of the categories that will help you clean up your system of unnecessary apps and make room for new ones. All programs listed come with a check-in box that will allow you to batch uninstall as many items as you wish in one single operation. This feature, time-saving as it is, could be largely improved if you wouldn’t have to confirm each and every uninstall individually. It would also be desirable to have the possibility of removing items from the list of installed apps to avoid accidental uninstalls.
Powerful Scan is, by far, my favorite feature. It wipes out all leftovers and remaining files that programs tend to leave behind when uninstalled. It comes after the standard uninstall process as an option, and though not always finds unwanted and unneeded files to remove, it has become a must for me whenever I remove an app from my computer. It is generous enough to offer to remove all residual files even when you’ve used the program’s own uninstaller directly or a different tool to get rid of the app. You’ll be surprised by the amount of files and Megabytes that are usually left behind. After Powerful Scan, Force Uninstall comes very close on the list of favorite features. This amazing utility is capable of getting rid of the most stubborn tools, those that come with no uninstall file whatsoever and are there to stay. Combine this with the program’s File Shredder and no file or program will ever resist you again.
The Toolbars & Plug-ins section has specific lists for Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and the new Microsoft Edge. Here you’ll see all toolbars and add-ons attached to your browsers complete with user ratings and occasional short descriptions of what they do in order to assist you with your decisions.
If you want to make the most of IObit Uninstaller, you can move up to the PRO version for a price. The differences are not overwhelming – a larger real-time database to improve Force Uninstall, uninstall of malicious plug-ins, and an auto-clean version of Powerful Scan that will look for residual files left behind by other uninstallers. Regardless of which version you choose, be prepared for a first-class experience.
